The Romanian Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Cătălin Predoiu, alongside Romania’s Attorney General Cristina Chiriac and DIICOT’s chief prosecutor Codrin-Horațiu Miron, inaugurated the bilateral conference titled “Strengthening U.S.-Romanian Transnational Cooperation on Combating Organized Crime” in Constanța. This event, organized by the U.S. Department of Justice, saw the attendance of specialized officers from the Romanian Police as well as representatives from the FBI, DEA, and Secret Service stationed in Romania, according to a press release from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Scheduled from June 8-10, 2026, in Constanța, the conference will bring together officers from the Romanian Police and Border Police, along with representatives from U.S. federal law enforcement agencies.
John Hanley, the resident legal advisor of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office for Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance, and Training, officially opened the event.
In his address, Cătălin Predoiu emphasized the importance of enhancing the security dimension of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States through increasingly close operational collaboration.
“Organized crime operates in an integrated, organized, and increasingly sophisticated manner. Law enforcement agencies must respond similarly: with integrated, organized strategies based on extensive and deepened cooperation. Organized crime has become a global player with multiple integrated networks acting in varied forms, representing one of the greatest threats to democratic societies,” the minister stated.
Predoiu also highlighted that the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States must be continuously supported by tangible forms of cooperation.
“Our strategic partnership with the United States is crucial for Romania, not only in terms of security and military aspects but also in integrating our efforts in law enforcement and crime prevention,” concluded the Romanian official.
