“We Deployed Our Forces to Safeguard Your Land”
In response to a query regarding the incident in the Constanța port, Macron expressed:
“The security of Europe, particularly that of Romania, is extremely significant for France. Hence, mere hours after the conflict in Ukraine erupted, we responded to requests from Romanian authorities by dispatching our troops to safeguard your territory.
Today, we stand as the framework nation providing security to Romania. We are in close coordination with your authorities and are committed to fulfilling whatever the Romanian government deems necessary to protect your land and air sovereignty.”
“You Can Rely on Us”
When asked about the possibility of increasing French troop presence in Romania, Macron explained that it depends on assessments, but emphasized Romania’s reliance on French support:
“It hinges on a joint threat assessment. Recently, we’ve observed emerging challenges and drone incursions. Each time, we clarify and reaffirm our comprehensive support, and we will adjust our stance based on requirements and needs. Rest assured, you can rely on us.”
A drone laden with explosives self-detonated on the morning of June 5, 2026, at 10:28 AM, in Dock 78 of Constanța Port. Fortunately, there were no human casualties, although the powerful explosion affected the entire city, causing significant damage to an industrial facility within the port.
Authorities were alerted prior to the explosion when control was lost over a group of four drones, which was reported to Romanian officials before the impact occurred.
