The Ministry of National Defense (MApN) reports that Russian attacks targeted civilian and infrastructure objectives in Ukraine, near the river border with Romania. A drone that breached Romanian airspace was tracked by radar systems until it reached the vicinity of Galați city.
Specialized teams from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, along with units from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Romanian Intelligence Service, and Romanian Police, are on-site managing the situation.
During the alert, two F-16 fighter jets serving in the Air Police mission took off at 01:19 from the 86th Air Base in Fetești. They were supported by a IAR 330 SOCAT helicopter from the Romanian Air Force. According to MApN, the pilots had authorization to engage targets throughout the alert.
The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations about the need to alert the public. As a result, RO-Alert messages were dispatched to the counties of Tulcea, Galați, and Brăila.
This incident occurs amid escalating Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure near the Danube River, which borders Romania. In recent months, Romanian authorities have repeatedly issued alerts for border counties following the detection of drones or potential drone fragments near the national airspace.
