AI Surge Redefines Global Markets and Spawns New Industry Giants

Many investors pinpoint May 24, 2023, as a pivotal moment in this transformation, when the American company NVIDIA reported financial results that exceeded expectations, driven by overwhelming demand for artificial intelligence.

Since then, the AI boom has completely reshaped the hierarchy within the tech sector and has even impacted industries previously unconnected to software or computing.

AI Revenue Explosion

According to an analysis by industry experts, revenue from chips used for artificial intelligence has soared at an unprecedented rate. NVIDIA, the leading producer of graphics processors used to train AI models like ChatGPT, has seen the most remarkable growth.

The company’s revenue from AI accelerators—specialized chips used for training and running artificial intelligence—has skyrocketed from $3.4 billion to over $60 billion in just three years, marking a staggering increase of approximately 1,600%.

NVIDIA’s reported revenues for the latest fiscal quarter reached $81.6 billion, far surpassing analyst predictions.

“There are no signs of slowing demand for NVIDIA’s AI equipment,” analysts observe, emphasizing that the demand for artificial intelligence remains “insatiable.”

Chips Fueling the AI Boom

AI accelerators are specialized chips essential for developing and operating artificial intelligence. They enable rapid processing of massive data volumes and are used by companies like OpenAI, Google, and Meta Platforms.

The explosive demand for these chips has significantly benefited companies like NVIDIA, Advanced Micro Devices, and Broadcom, which are among the top semiconductor and AI infrastructure providers.

AI’s Impact Isn’t Universal in Tech

While the AI boom has led to impressive gains for chip and infrastructure manufacturers, not all tech companies have benefited equally. According to industry sources, software firms have lagged behind semiconductor producers. Investors worry that artificial intelligence might diminish the need for traditional software applications or even replace certain services.

Thus, while the semiconductor index has surged nearly 424% since 2023, many software companies have experienced modest growth or even declines.

AI Revolution Transforms Other Industries

The expansion of artificial intelligence has accelerated the construction of data centers—massive facilities housing the servers needed for AI operations. This trend has also boosted industries like energy, construction, and infrastructure.

Among the major beneficiaries are the American manufacturer Caterpillar and companies that produce electrical generators or build the infrastructure needed to power data centers.

Amid the massive energy demands of new AI centers, U.S.-based energy company Bloom Energy, for instance, has seen its stock rise by over 240% in the past six months.

New Billion-Dollar Giants Emerge

The AI boom has sparked significant changes in the private startup market as well.

OpenAI’s valuation soared from $86 billion in January 2024 to over $850 billion by March 2026, according to PitchBook, a platform specializing in market analysis and startups.

Similarly, Anthropic’s valuation climbed from $21 billion to around $900 billion.

The AI boom has also led to an unprecedented concentration in financial markets, with a few giant companies now dominating a substantial portion of the U.S. stock market, analysts explain.

However, they caution that not all companies will benefit from the AI boom, and investor enthusiasm might wane if the economy slows or if results fail to meet the market’s high expectations.
