Former presidential candidate Elena Lasconi, who made it to the 2024 presidential final, expressed her willingness to redo the second round against Călin Georgescu, although she acknowledged that legally, this is no longer feasible.
“I’m moving forward; let’s head to the second round. Come on, Georgescu!” Lasconi declared during the program “e,” hosted by Gândul.
Despite her enthusiasm, Lasconi delivered sharp criticism towards the sovereigntist political sphere, emphasizing that resuming the second round is legally impossible.
“Should we pick up where we left off? The question is, how? George Simion claimed that if he were to become president, he would bring back the second round. Is that even possible? How do you suggest bringing back the second round? This is just outrageous. So, you’ve barely settled into the presidential chair at Cotroceni, and then you say, ‘Hold on, George, we must redo the second round,'” stated the Mayor of Câmpulung Muscel.
Lasconi emphasized that this narrative is just “nonsense” that resonates with parts of the population lacking legal knowledge.
“Legally, is there any possibility to restart the second round? This is nonsense, pure and simple. But it works. It convinces people who don’t read legislation and aren’t aware of legal mechanisms. If they existed, I would have used them myself, having made it to the second round,” Elena Lasconi remarked.
“Organizing new elections is a different matter, but redoing the second round is no longer an option. Călin Georgescu could have been disqualified for how he conducted his campaign without those necessary codes. When will you understand that the elections were annulled because of me?” Lasconi concluded.
