Sorin Grindeanu Calls for General Vlad Gheorghiță’s Resignation Amid Controversy: A Necessary Step for Romanian Military Stability

Amid ongoing controversies surrounding the military leader, social-democrat leader Sorin Grindeanu has called for the resignation of General Vlad Gheorghiță to ensure the integrity of Romania’s military leadership. Grindeanu emphasized that any doubts regarding the professional conduct of such a high-ranking official could undermine the institution’s credibility.

## Sorin Grindeanu: Any Doubt is a Weakness

“Stepping down from his position within the Romanian Army would be the appropriate action for someone in General Vlad Gheorghiță’s situation. Any shadow of doubt over his professional conduct poses a vulnerability for the Romanian Army,” stated Sorin Grindeanu.

The PSD leader insists that national defense institutions must operate without any suspicions or uncertainties that could jeopardize public trust and the military’s ability to respond effectively.

## PSD: Romania Needs Stability in Defense

Grindeanu also highlighted the importance of maintaining a leadership free from controversy in the Romanian Army, particularly given the current regional security climate.

“In these times, Romania cannot afford uncertainties at the helm of its defense structures,” added the PSD president.

## “I Categorically Reject the Accusations”: Army Chief Refuses to Step Down After DNA Indictment

General Vlad Gheorghiță, Chief of the General Staff of the Army, announced Tuesday that he will not resign following his indictment by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) in a case involving preferential hiring.

“I categorically reject the accusations against me and unequivocally assert that I have committed no acts of corruption, nor have I been involved, directly or indirectly, in activities that could constitute complicity in such acts,” declared Gheorghiță.

In the case regarding preferential hiring within the Ministry of National Defense (MApN), Gheorghiță allegedly intervened on behalf of the daughter of the former CSAT secretary, Mihai Șomordolea, who is also formally charged by the DNA.

Charges include complicity in abuse of office if a public servant obtained undue benefits for themselves or others.
