According to the National Meteorological Administration, the weather in Bucharest will initially remain hot with increasing thermal discomfort in the coming days.
June 21-23: Temperatures Soaring to 33 Degrees Celsius
From June 21, 9:00 AM to June 23, 9:00 AM, temperatures will stay elevated:
- highs between 31 and 32 degrees Celsius;
- lows ranging from 17 to 19 degrees Celsius.
The sky will be partly cloudy with occasional clouds in the afternoon, and winds are expected to be light to moderate. There is a chance of light showers and isolated thunderstorms.
On June 22-23, the warm weather continues with similar temperatures and high thermal discomfort.
Increasing Atmospheric Instability Towards the End of the Period
From June 23-24, meteorologists predict a rise in atmospheric instability in the capital.
Showers, Thunderstorms, and Hail Expected
For the period June 23, 9:00 AM to June 24, 9:00 AM, the forecast includes:
- highs between 32-33 degrees Celsius;
- lows from 18-20 degrees Celsius;
- rainfall of 5-8 l/sqm;
- frequent electrical discharges.
June 24: More Intense Storms in Bucharest
In the latter part of the period, June 24, 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, the weather will become unstable with severe weather phenomena:
- heavy showers (5-8 l/sqm, isolated over 12 l/sqm);
- frequent electrical discharges;
- hail of small to potentially medium size;
- wind gusts of 40-45 km/h;
- potential squalls.
The maximum temperature will hover around 30 degrees Celsius.
Increased Thermal Discomfort and ITU Index of 80
ANM warns that in Bucharest, the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will reach the critical threshold of 80 units, indicating significant thermal discomfort, especially in the afternoon hours.
Meteorological Advisory and Possible Additional Warnings
Throughout the period from June 21-24, a meteorological advisory will be in effect for Bucharest regarding:
- hot weather;
- high thermal discomfort;
- temporary intense atmospheric instability.
Meteorologists note that based on the evolution of the weather phenomena, the forecast may be updated to include nowcasting warnings for immediate severe weather events.
