Turkey is eager to enhance its defense industry collaboration with Japan, particularly in the area of drone development and manufacturing, according to a report by Ukrinform. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan shared these insights during an interview with Nikkei Asia.
“The potential for cooperation between Turkey and Japan is significant, offering mutual advantages,” stated the Turkish diplomat. He emphasized that Turkish drone technology has proven effective in various operational scenarios and could serve as a foundation for joint projects, particularly in securing coastal and border areas.
“In aviation, especially regarding unmanned aerial systems and drone interception technologies, Turkey has developed advanced and field-tested capabilities, which could provide a robust basis for collaboration,” he added.
Beyond defense, Fidan noted ongoing progress in discussions for a social security agreement between the two nations, highlighting opportunities for cooperation in energy, mining, digital transformation, aerospace technologies, robotics, and the development of more resilient supply chains.
Previously, Ukrinform reported that Turkey and Kazakhstan agreed to establish a joint venture for the production and maintenance of Turkish ANKA drones two weeks ago.
